Second Week=Type A Flu

Student Intern: Barbara Edwards     Week Ending:

Placement:   First Grade   Clinical Teacher(s): Mrs. Hallmets

If you did not teach a full load this week, please indicate which subjects you taught.

1. The main discoveries that I made from teaching this week are:

This week the main discoveries that I made were teaching a science lesson and getting know the children better. I also found out some of my weaknesses while teaching the science lesson and focused more on what I wanted to accomplish. I still focused on daily schedules and routines. I felt like this week I had more responsibilities and opened up more to the children. I got to read books to the children and do follow up activities with them. I feel like I am more prepared to teach the children. I also feel more comfortable in front of them and the classroom.

2. When I think about being a teacher, I am concerned about:

* Coming up with creative lessons even though the curriculum is already set by DPS.

* Keeping the children's interest.

* I am also concerned about classroom management. I am a very soft spoken person and I do not like to raise my voice or yell. My clinical teacher is completely opposite form me. She is loud by nature and she can yell. I want to control my students without screaming or yelling. I also will not tolerate loud and rambunctious behavior.

3. I feel...

 * Like I have so much more responsibilities now and I like teaching more lessons. This week science was a lot of fun and the children enjoy learning about science. Its fun and not boring.

4. Questions I have after working this week are:

 * Mostly about classroom management and how to control the class with out yelling.

5. I rate my experience this week as:

Inadequate   Marginal   Excellent

1       2                    3**                 4                     5

6. Other reactions:

 * I taught the science lesson on monday but came to school feeling terrible. My body ached all over. After school I went to my physician and they tested me for the flu. I had Type A Flu. I guess now I know to wash my hands more and to take extra precautions when it comes to teaching and children. I have never been that sick before, and trust me you dont want that type of flu. They also tested me for swine, I dont get those results back for a few days.

7. After discussing this week with my clinical teacher(s), next week I will focus on:

 * Starting to have a lesson each day instead of every other day. I want to stick with science and hopefully pick that up full load next week and start picking up math as well.
